There are others I might think of first on a different day, probably Bette Davis or Barbara Stanwyck.
Loy could have chemistry with anyone — and was always funny. I also like how she played dramatic scenes without going BIG like so many did during that time. But I’m mostly familiar with her roles starting with the Thin Man and after.
Vincent Price was game to play and do anything. He always seemed to enjoy whatever he was doing, no matter how silly it might seem. I think my favorite performance of his is in The Abominable Dr. Phibes. It’s purposely ridiculous but has Art Deco sets and a fully committed Price playing a doctor seeking vengeance.
