We had another great outing Sunday at the historic Earl & Rachel Smith Strand Theatre in Marietta watching Lon Chaney in "The Monster"! This silent film event featured live organ accompaniment by house organist Ron Carter, who curated & composed an entire score. The fact that he played live for the entire hour and 25 minute film with only a brief intermission highlighted the incredible musicianship of moviehouse organists in the teens and 1920s.
The film was preceded by a singalong pre-show led & accompanied by former Fox Theatre house organist Jay Mitchell. The Strand plans on hosting another 6 film silent series in 2019 which we will be sure to put on our calendar!
Also had the pleasure of meeting 3 new members of the chapter in person: Ben Dahlbeck, Darrell Grizzle & John Moffo. We then experienced incredible food at a new barbecue place on the Marietta Square called Hawg & Ale Smokehouse. If you live near or ever get to the Square check this place out - the food was delicious and the ambience fun & casual!
